Janelle Monae releases new song in protest to police killings of unarmed citizens: "Say His/Her

JANELLE MONAE AND THE WONDALAND LIVE PERFORMING "HELL YOU TALMBOUT" AFTER #BLACKLIVESMATTER PROTEST

Janelle Monae, just released a new protest song attacking systemic and historic police brutality via her Souncloud. page.

The new single is a remixed version of “Hell You Talmbout” from Monae’s 2013 album The Electic Lady. In this version Janelle features her label "Wondaland Records" roster; Deep Cotton, St. Beauty, Jidenna, Roman GianArthur, George 2.0.

The powerful anthem features a strong "war-drum" beat,, but the chorus is simple "SAY HIS/HER NAME!" they call out the names of African American men and women who have been victims of violence with chants of “Say his/her

name.”

Janelle Monae memorializes contemporary victims of police brutality like Walter Scott, Freddie Gray, Sandra Bland, Kimani Gray, Michael Brown, and Miriam Carey. The Wondaland crew goes on to mention names from decades prior such as Roy Brant, J.W. Milam and Emmett Till who were brutality murdered in the 50s.

Recently Jay-z and Will Smith announced plans on developing with HBO a mini series focusing on Emmett Till's life and brutal death. It is important that Art not only reflects the times we live in but also our history and connect them.

Janelle and Wondaland’s debut EP The Eephus comes out 08/14/15.
