Jay-Z and Will Smith join forces to produce HBO Mini Series on Emmet Till
Jay Z and Will Smith's history of collaboration continues. Via their respective Roc Nation and Overbrook Entertainment companies, the pair have embarked on a number of co-producing efforts, most recently the Annie remake last Christmas. Now they're back at it, this time on HBO.
The "Fresh Prince" and "King of Hip Hop are behind an upcoming miniseries that will tell the tragic story of
Emmett Till, the 14 your-old African-American teen who was murdered and mutilated in 1955 in Mississippi for merely talking to a Caucasian girl. Till's murderers were acquitted, despite admitting to the murder later. The project is currently untitled, with no writers nor talent attached.
The moment seems right for a historical series like this in the wake of the countless killings by police and white supremacists and the #BlackLivesMatter Movement has taking center stage in today's political discourse.
